From August 16 to 22, 2024, Chisinau is hosting the 8th edition of the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI), organized by the Ministry of Education and Research and the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation.
The event brings together students and teachers from 26 countries and honors academic achievements recognized by the entire European community. Thus, EJOI serves as a starting point for the development of talent in the IT industry. Its history is not extensive in terms of quantity, but it is full of remarkable events.
- The first edition of the Olympiad took place in Bulgaria: EJOI was launched in Sofia from September 7 to 13, 2017, which is why Bulgaria aims to host the jubilee edition of the Olympiad in 2027.
- The second edition was held in Innopolis, Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation, from July 26 to August 1, 2018.
- In Maribor, Slovenia, the third edition took place from August 23 to 28, 2019.
- With a record number of participating countries—27, Tbilisi, Georgia, hosted the fourth edition from September 2 to 6, 2020.
- The fifth edition was held in Ploiesti, Romania, from August 24 to 28, 2021.
- The sixth edition took place online in Kyiv, Ukraine, from September 19 to 25, 2022.
- The seventh edition was hosted once again by Georgia, in Kutaisi, from September 8 to 14, 2023.
- The eighth edition, which features the largest number of students in the competition – 98 – also promises to be a successful one, being organized in the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova and the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation extend their thanks to the partners and sponsors of the Olympiad, who contribute to spreading the country’s dignity and values throughout Europe and beyond.
